Arrested Development...

It’s really ridiculous to be losing excessive hair at such a young age. Our hair is our crowning glory and how can I fucking lose it? The idea of being bald can be compared to that of being naked. Who likes to be naked? I have a friend who is partially bald and whenever I see him, reality hits home. Do I want to end up like him? I mean I don’t want to sound mean or whatever, but all that I am trying to say is by the time I step into university, I want my thick and spiky hair back permanently. Solution: Yun Nam

I have been coffee clubbing for the last few days. From the stretch of coffee houses at Serangoon gardens to NYDC at Heerens to Starbucks at Eastpoint. I really wonder whether I would end up in the ‘Yuppie’ group when I grow up. I am starting to show signs and symptoms of the yuppie. For your information, the yuppie is not a hippie. We don’t do drugs and the free love movement. A friend once commented that he could see me being part of the group of yuppies sipping coffee and doing business presentations in the coffee house and plus with a hot assistant by my side. I can already picture it all in my mind. Oh well….if only I can do this for a living.

I have just been offered a place in the law faculty at the Australia National University (ANU). The offer just came in a couple of days ago and my deadline for this offer is in August. ANU is an extremely good university, it is ranked 16th in the world and No 1 in Australia. Besides that they are affiliated with NUS, Oxford, Harvard, and all the most reputable universities around the world.

My only point of contention about ANU is that it is in Canberra and everybody knows how Canberra is like? I feel like I am going to the Swiss Mountains to spend the next 4 years of my life, it can be really depressing. Secondly it is a research intensive university and I am not sure whether would this research component affect the teaching methods of the law school? I mean research is really interesting and challenging, but I do want a good grounding and guidance with the law modules through solid teaching. So I have to weigh the pro and cons wisely. Going to a top law school is important as it would add to your CV; however I must admit I get a bit jittery thinking about whether I could cope with the intense competition from all these brilliant people. Besides that one must also look at the way the subject is being taught. It’s more important than the reputation. Good teaching lasts a lifetime.

I must say Arrested Development is a great sitcom. Catch it on Star World. I love its quirkiness and dysfunctional characters and the family dynamics. It’s like Ozzie Osborne meets Hillary Duff thing. The show focuses on the main actor trying to get his family together to save the family’s business. It’s hilarious and its jokes are very intelligent, at least its not slapstick like Friends. You need a certain level of decent intellect to understand its jokes.
